Some experiments

Hey, there!

EDIT: This was posted yesterday, but I am adding to it now, having been inspired by eb. I have been wanting to submit another MIYO project to the Street Team, but wasn't really sure if this qualified as a Make It Your Own undertaking. However, it sure did FEEL like one. Because I have been working over some ATCs for awhile, trying to make my masks and backgrounds work, trying to make ATCs that felt more like BIG canvases or parts of BIG puzzles, with imagery that didn't fit, and some surface relief, and layers and layers of colors and textures that add some mystery. And I think for the most part, I was successful. I took stencils and used parts of them, I sprayed paint lightly on one side, heavier on another, I took stamps and masked them.
At least I've learned a lot. So, I'm delivering this over to the Team.

I hope you all had a relaxing and rewarding holiday weekend. I saw two movies I liked very much. And the arty part of my weekend consisted of painting, doing some colored penciling of a couple of sketches, and working on ATCs.

I wanted to make a whole mess of artist trading cards, after not making any for almost a year. I showed a couple in the prior post. After those, I took two big pieces of watercolor paper and painted them up with layers of gesso, paint, and stenciling. Then I cut both pages up into 15 cards each.

Here are some of those surfaces. As you can see, I had a blue/purple/black/white theme for one sheet, and a yellow/green/black/white theme for the other. (I considered a puce/mauve/chartreuse theme, but I didn't know what those were.)

After that, I did stamping and embossing and used spray paints with masks. Here are some of those.

I tried using a butterfly mask on some, but on the busiest surfaces, the butterflies just don't show up as butterflies, as evidenced below.

But, after they are sprayed again, they are much more recognizable as butterflies, or at least as giant mutant winged creatures bent on destruction. Or, butterflies.

I'm not sure which ones are my favorites. I have a number ONE favorite, but I don't want to influence anyone.

Next Up: Chris's doctor has some bad news for her about stencil adhesive and the human hand.

Ed and I went and saw Star Trek over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Then I had to come into the office and listen to my coffee buddy complain about the liberties they took with the "Star Trek" history. Get a life!

Oh and love the postcards. Send them all to me.

OH! These are absolutely amazing. I have never done ATC's but always wanted to try. And what a great idea to cut up w.c. paper for the backgrounds. Finally, a use for all of my 'reject'
paintings LOL! Thank you for the inspiration.

These are really interesting, with all the layers. I think I like the ones with the text the best, but it is hard to choose. :)

My fav is where the butterfly starts to fade into the mottled blue in the bottom left hand corner. You sure sprayed up a storm. They all look great.

Wow, amazing masking technique you've got there! It's been a long time since I pulled out the embossing powder... maybe I should revisit that myself. Making it my own, of course. :o)
